desk legs are another typically boring and soul-less piece of design which occupies our lives. hiding beneath a desktop of some sort, and generally out of sight. but depending on your level of minimalist living and open plan office space, the desk legs could be quite a playful accent in an otherwise neutral environment.
folded design
again using folded sheet metal, the design uses a concertina zig-zag to add structural strength to the supports. the repeated form makes it easy to nest the two legs together for compact and efficient shipping
manufacture
folding metal is one of the most basic processes in metal fabrication. it is widely available, simple to automate, accurate and reliable. all this works in favour of keeping the costs of manufacture low and quality high
variations
the same sheet metal material could be used with a sinusoidal wave. the sine wave adds depth to the material and therefore structural strength, but it is also still nests the components efficiently for compact packing and shipping.
assembly
assembly only requires a few nut and bolt fixings to secure the dogleg part of the desk support in position. by making this element separate manufacture and shipping remain as simple and compact as possible.
